First Cut of Movie Opener

Hey blog, this is the URL to our first draft of our opening film. It is still incomplete but we are working to get it to 2 minutes. We also have to review some transitions and add effects, which we will do after our last film session. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=shared&v=vAW-q6FRgtA&themeRefresh=1

Editing 2

This week, I edited for about 1 additional hour than we had previously. Once again, Emily and I are the editors for this film. I decided to play with the title font appearance and fix the transitions. The font was still kept to BebasNeue and I made the letters have a more contrast shadow to show more boldness and blend into the background. I also added a title effect of the letters of "missing" popping/glitching out one by one to create a suspenseful non-boring way to introduce the title. I used video effects of Blur close to blur out the background slowly and a black fade transition to fade out of the title. These worked together really nicely to make it smooth. For a later clip in our opening scene, we used the vignette video effect and lowered the opacity. This was used to create the illusion that someone was stalking us in the woods and set a creepy tone for the audience.  It was as if it was an eye point of view and we used audio effects of eerie music to cover that sp...

Editing 1

We decided to use the title "missing" because it is a simple and meaningful. The title already hints to the viewers that something is going to happen or go "missing." The font of the title is BebasNeue and we chose this because it gives a bold expression that is typically used in suspense films. We used a blur motion video effect for the title sequence. There were some issues with adding the effect onto the whole frame of the particular clip so I have to figure out how to fix it to look realistic. We did add some audio effects of tree rattling so it could sound more projected in our film, to let the audience know what was catching our attention.  Some problems that were encountered were integrating the clips together and making the transitions smooth. There were some clips that did not match well with the corresponding one due to the lighting or sound quality, so we had to re-film them. When editing, I had difficulties with the title transitions. I imagined it to ...

Filming Process

Image
My group and I began filming two weeks ago and have had 2 sessions of filming so far. We know which locations we wanted to film in to display our settings and we had to figure out the days and exact times we would go out to film to make sure the lighting was what we wanted in the film. We went to Wolf Lake park to give the impression that we were in the woods and started filming at 4:30pm. The pictures show a huge contrast in light because the sun came down quickly, cutting our film time short.  The second time around we filmed at 4:00pm to give us that extra time before it got dark. We were more prepared and that made us work more effectively.  These pictures show me filming the clip of our group walking in the woods and another point of view of a stalker with the help of our friend. I am recording a tracking shot following the movement of the characters as they walk, while the stalker takes footage behind the trees, making, him look hidden so the group of friends don't...

Challenges in Filming

My team and I have already been out to film twice for our opening film and there were many setbacks. We decided to film in the afternoon, since that's when we were all available but, it was daylight's saving and the sun went down quicker. We underestimated how much time it would take the first time. There was not much planning done prior, since we thought there were not that many lines to go over. We spent over ten tries attempting to do the very first clip, because although we had the scene written out, it was a different experience in real life and some of our teammates had a hard time with adjusting. The second time we went to film, the lesson was learned that we needed to go earlier and have a plan. So, we spent time going through clips and we had to re-film almost half of the clips because of the high contrast in lighting.  I was the one filming while Emily, Nestor, and Leon were acting for the clips. Although we were more prepared the second time around, there were ther...
