Analyzing Technical Elements of a Film

I chose to do the film Wakanda Forever (2022), produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, which is the sequel of the movie Black Panther (2018). This is an action packed, sci-fi film portraying life in Wakanda, as everyone deals with their king passing. We get to discover who becomes the new black panther as they fight for their nation's protection from the marine kingdom. The movements, angles, and shots help depict what the characters are feeling and add to the emotion the audience may feel.

This scene portrays Shuri and Okoye showing up to Riri's dorm to pick her up, so they can head to Wakanda. As the dialogue began between the characters, Riri shows resistance and in (0:05-0:06), there is a close up scene that is zoomed into her picking up an object to defend herself from these intruders, at her place. This shot was filmed with a hand-cam so that it gives a sense of alertness and anticipation about what is going to happen next and how anxious Riri is about the situation. At (0:14), there is a diegetic sound being made as the object flew across the room, landed on the bed, and made a loud thump as it fell to the floor.

This scene portrays Shuri training for battle with Namor. She ingests the heart-shaped herb, as she's on the table wearing her vibranium suit. From (0:00-0:15) a zoom movement is happening while Shuri drinks the herb. There may have been a foley sound used of water flowing that helps maximize the effect of Shuri drinking. It starts to kick in and light from her cheekbones emerge, in an extreme close-up shot. From (0:16-24) her heart is pulsing and we hear this non-diegetic sound, while her head is tilting back and forth at a close view to let the audience know something is about to happen. She goes into a dream-like state and in (0:27) the scene shows a standard focus, blurring the background and focusing on the throne and Shuri, in the setting where she meets with Killmonger.

This scene portrays M'Baku in his lair giving remarks to the people as something catches their attention. at (0:14), there is an extreme-close up of the lair entrance as it opens, and someone swiftly exits out, gliding down to the floor. (0:22) the Black Panther lands and there is a low-angle shot followed but a tilt movement illustrating the boldness of her land. The camera switches back the M'Baku as he is surprised to see who is standing in front of him. From (0:46-1:12), there is tension built up as Shuri removes the mask and is placed in an arm wrestling battle with M'Baku. There is a hand-cam involved, taking close-up shots of both of the warriors while switching scenery to the people in the back who are cheering for the winner. There were diegetic sounds like the coming together of their hands (clapping) and the chanting in the background.
The first clip of this scene portrays a standard focus where Namor arises to the surface of the water with his spear, close-up. With the merciless look on his face, the camera is initially focusing on, the audience can already tell he is ready for battle. From (0:22-0:41), M'Baku spots Namor, charges at him from the back and his first response gets blocked. Namor turns around and gives him a striking punch to the chest that appears to be in slow motion and slowly zooms out. The camera does a whip-pan to follow M'Baku  being thrown unto a sturdy table, destroying it, making non-diegetic clash sound. This gives the audience full effect of how powerful Namor was and the damage he can do.
The final scene portrays Shuri, the Black Panther, with shallow focus, on an island that appears to be destructed. At (0:04), she begins to power-up when all of a sudden she looks up and something comes  descending from the sky, striking her in the head. You hear a non-diegetic sound of a siren-like scream being made as Shuri plummets to the ground, being shown through an aerial shot. This was just the beginning of the battle that was at the stake of the Wakanda Kingdom.
